Surfing

Barbados has the Caribbean’s most consistent surf conditions with consistent swells all year round. In winter the north and west coasts pick up plenty of swell and the constant trade winds ensure that the east coast has waves for surfers consistently. Surfing in Barbados is fun for everyone regardless of their experience with beginner size waves at Freights Bay on the south coast to heavy, overhead reef breaks as Soup Bowl on the east. The best season for solid swells is from October to March when a size range will vary between 2 to 12 ft. in the north of the island and clean 1 to 8 ft. surf for the rest of the island. The rest of the year the surf is between 2 to 6ft. From September to February, as tropical storms pass well north of the island, Barbados can receive some of the largest ground swells this time of the year while maintaining its beautiful climate. So if you are a pro surfer looking for some great surf in Barbados you should plan your vacation around the winter season. There are plenty of surfboard rentals, schools and even organised tours on the island for any kind of surfer or the one who wishes to learn how to ride a wave.
