The Barbados Flag
Barbados the flag is made up of 3 different vertical brands. The outer two are ultramarine bands and the middle one gold band. Well, the ultimate bands symbolize the sea and sky of Barbados and the middle gold band symbolize beaches. The gold band consist of a black trident and it is the trident of “Neptune” the Mythical Sea God. It has broken shaft that specify that Barbados is independent and separated from Britain in the year 1966. The first flag was designed and made by Grantley Presod and he chooses from one thousand twenty nine entries. It is real fact that after 6 p.m. the flag of Barbados can not be flown, only inside a building. Barbados the flag can be flown from morning 6 a.m. to evening 6 p.m. in Trafalgar square from the public building.
As a sign of mourning, Barbados the flag is flown at half-mast and during a sign of distress must be flown with the trident inverted. Barbados the flag should not touch anything below like vehicles, trees or the ground. Barbados the flag is one of the greatest symbols of independence and people of the island are really proud of their flag. This three color flag with the trident, bonds people to be one and to be united.
National Flag of Barbados contains 3 equal vertical panels – center panel of gold & outer panels of the ultramarine. The broken trident in the black color is situated in center of a flag.
Symbolism
The blue color represents sea & sky of the Barbados, whereas gold represents sand of island’s beaches. Symbol at centre of this flag represents Trident of mythical god of sea, Neptune – shaft of a trident is been broken symbolising the Barbados’ break from the Britain. National Flag must be flown daily from Public Buildings, the Trafalgar Square, at 6:00am – 6:00pm. It can be flown every day from the government buildings and the schools whenever they are in the session, as well as places of business.
