Barbados Hilton Reader Review
I’ll start by saying that we would return to the Hilton Barbados if we go back to the Barbados. On a positive note, the staff was genuinely friendly with our thanks to Tamarah at the Reservation Desk, Melinda & Christine in the Executive Lounge and Andrew at the Pool/Beach. Our stay was for a week and the weather was great! my opinion would not be so happy if the weather was poor as this is a small island.
We stayed in a two room suite for five days and then extended our stay to the Executive Level (8th floor) for the weekend which boasts twenty foot ceilings and a glass exterior wall to a small balcony. The Hotel is clearly above-average by Barbados standards. A four star hotel, it shows in the rooms. However, the exterior of the hotel, although clean, is a relatively unattractive architectural design. perhaps it was the time of the year, but the landscaping was less than spectacular, too. It just was not impressive for a 6 year old/ 4 star hotel. The fact that it is also a hurricane shelter (which they claim almost never happens) may have added to the drab design. ie. no plants off common area balconies, lack of color, institutional look. The neighborhood, which didn’t bother me, isn’t exactly a postcard. The entire front entrance is more like pulling up to a parking lot.
The Executive Level Lounge was an interesting combination of Hilton Hospitality (ie, the staff was great!) and nickel/dime hotel policy. The appetizers were inconsistent, at best. The concept of an Honor Bar which will be billed to your account is different, too. most Hilton’s we have visited don’t charge for drinks in the Executive Lounge (all day and night.) Breakfast in the lounge was acceptable if you are looking for a continental breakfast. (ie. nothing served hot except the coffee). However, I didn’t see one person touch the smoked fish plate or cold cuts which I swear sat there all week. also, if you plan to have breakfast there, don’t show up late as they stop re-filling the plates a good half hour before closing.

The nine-race card, which is set to begin at 1:15 p.m., leads off the BTC’s second racing season.
Although the imported three-year-olds will take centre stage, there are some other very interesting races carded.
The top-rated horses always create a stir and this year’s Lost in The Fog Trophy handicap for three-year-olds and older rated 115-140 and open to horses rated 114 and below over 1 100 metres promises to be no exception.
The Gay Smith-owned Zoom, winner of this year’s Gold Cup, is down to carry the top weight of 133 pounds.
Zoom has recorded two wins and two seconds from his last four runs at distances ranging from 1 570 to 2 000 metres. in his last effort at this trip he just failed to catch Janaki in the Zouk handicap for horses rated 0-105. he will be putting in his best work at the end.
Bouncebak carries 128 pounds and the sublime form of three consecutive victories. Like Zoom, her wins were from distances of 1 570 to 2 000 metres.
Based on weight and form she must have an excellent chance.
The other two entered in this nine-horse field with a shot at winning are Who’s to Say and Purr Class.
The Aysha Syndicate-owned Who’s to Say is handicapped at 121.
He has beaten the top-rated sprinters this year, winning the Green Man handicap over 1 100 metres.
The Lord Michael Taylor-owned filly Purr Class with 120 pounds could show the importance of younger legs.
In the Silver Charm Trophy handicap for three-year-old and older horses rated 78-100 and also open to horses rated 77 and below over 1 570 metres, the Sir David Seale-owned Reward me takes 130 pounds.
Unplaced in the Gold Cup, the Stephen Bynoe-trained colt should find this field much to his liking despite the heavy impost.

The Aysha Syndicate-owned Who’s Staying takes 119 pounds and has shown top form recently with back-to-back wins. he will find, however, that this field is filled with tougher and more seasonal competitors.
Of very significant interest is the entry of the Sir Charles Williams-owned three-year-old Kendal Moon. She is handicapped at 116 pounds and considered a top contender for this year’s classics, and it will be interesting to see how she fares in this company.

Currently the schedule is offering flights 4 times per week – and there are plans to offer daily service. the low cost carrier had 149 passengers onboard including airline officials, Barbados government representatives and journalists.REDjet’s scheduled flights between Barbados, Trinidad and Jamaica have been cancelled. According to the Jamaica Observer, passengers scheduled to travel the Jamaica/Barbados route on REDjet received an e-mail which states: “Due to political and regulatory actions in Jamaica beyond our control, REDjet cannot operate flights between Barbados to Jamaica between May 11 and May 24,” said the correspondence from REDjet business development director Robbie Burns.Flights between Barbados and Trinidad/Tobago are on hold while waiting for approval from the Air Transport Licensing Authority (ATLA).
